Our Advent theme this year is Making Room.  In the season of Advent, we are invited to slow down, take a breath, and make room for the coming of Christ.  In a season often crowded with busy calendars, endless to-do lists, and holiday expectations, we are reminded that preparing for Christmas is about more than getting everything done.  It is about making room in our hearts, our homes, our relationships, and our lives for the hope, peace, joy, and love Jesus brings.  This Advent, may we discover that when we make room for God, there is also room for grace, generosity, and love for our neighbors.

  • Spirit of Giving in Partnership with Sunshine Place

SPUMC is again partnering with Sunshine Place in purchasing 130 Christmas gifts for children from under-privileged families. The value of each gift is to be between $40-50 each. We will have a tag on the tree for each child and on each tag will be the child’s age, gender, gift wish and a number. The tags will be available on the Christmas tree in the narthex starting Sunday, November 15. You may choose a tag (or 2 or 3) and then you MUST sign it out with the volunteers at the table next to the tree. All gifts are due back by Sunday, December 6. When you return the gift, you MUST again record it with the volunteers at the table next to the tree. Each returned gift must be in a bag with the child’s tag securely attached. Do not wrap the gift or include any wrapping paper or ribbons or bows.

Daniel and the youth will again be “personal shoppers” for those who wish to

participate, but do not like to shop are unable to shop themselves. The youth absolutely love doing his, so feel free to take advantage of this great service. You

may choose a tag yourself or have someone choose one for you. It still must be signed out with the volunteers at the table. You may give cash or a check made

payable to SPUMC with Spirit of Giving written in the memo line along with the

child’s tag to Cori, in the church office, or give it to the volunteers at the table by

the tree. If you mail your check to the church office, please make sure it arrives

    by Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Thank you for participating and making a child’s Christmas a little brighter.

  • Advent Devotional

Enjoy daily devotions through the season of Advent written by people within our church.  A daily devotion can center your day and it is always meaningful to read encouraging words written by those in our faith community.  You may pick up a book at church or read it online through our church website at sunprairieumc.org.

  • St. Nicholas Fund

In the spirit of gift giving to those in need, the SPUMC St. Nicholas Fund is used to assist members and friends of our congregation this Christmas and throughout the year at the discretion of Pastor Jenny and staff.  Please mark your gift ‘St. Nicholas Fund.’

  • Advent Studies

We will share in an Advent Study titled, Making Room  in Advent: 25 Devotions For a Season of Wonder, by Bette Dickinson.  This Advent study is an invitation to step away from the chaos and into the space where God is at work.  Each devotional features an original painting that is a fresh telling of the Advent story in the Gospel of Luke.  Each devotional will offer spiritual practices and reflection questions that allow us to make room for God’s work in our lives, our community and the world.

Join us on Wednesdays from noon to 1 pm in the Chapel:  December 2, 9 and 16, or on Sundays from 10:15-11 am in the Conference Room :  November 29, December 6, 13 and 20.  Pastor Jenny will teach the Wednesday class and Bill Anciaux will teach the Sunday class.  The Friday Grace Cafe small group will also be offering this Advent study from 9:30-11 am and the Saturday Morning Men’s Group from 8-9 am.

  • Longest Night

For many, Christmas is a bittersweet time of the year.  For some their hearts are breaking over the loss of a loved one, battling physical or mental health issues, or facing difficult family situations.  If you struggle to find joy in this season or just want a quiet, reflective time of worship, we offer our Longest Night Service.  Through music and Scripture, prayer and communion, along with the lighting of candles, we hope to break through any darkness in our lives to find the light that Jesus the Christ offers.  Our Longest Night Service will be held on Sunday, December 20 at 4:00 pm.  You are welcome to join us in the church sanctuary or online.

  • Christmas Blessing and Communion

We will offer a Christmas Blessing and the sacrament of Communion in a drive-thru style in our church parking lot from 12:30-1:30 pm and then in the lobby of the Colonial Club at 301 Blankenheim Ln. in Sun Prairie from 3:30-4:30 pm on Tuesday, December 22.  This is for anyone who would like to receive a Christmas Blessing and Communion, but may be particularly meaningful if you are not able to come to Christmas Eve worship.  Invite others to join you!
