Confirmation

Confirmation is a time for young people to confirm the vows of baptism – those taken on their behalf if they were baptized as an infant.

The SPUMC tradition is for 9th graders to take the confirmation class together. This weekly class runs from September through April and will cover the basics of Christian theology and United Methodist beliefs, history and structure. Every student will have a mentor, an adult to help guide them through the year and to be there for them in the future.

If you have a child who will be in 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2026 and would like to be in our confirmation program, please call the church office.

Affirmation of Faith Written by the 2025-2026 Confirmation Class

We believe in God as the Creator of all things. God is in the world’s beauty and is a constant presence throughout life. God’s presence helps us

approach people with an open mindset and helps us give people grace just as Jesus would want us to do. We believe God accepts and supports those who

are considered by society to be ‘out of the ordinary.’

We believe Jesus was sent as an example by which to model our lives. Jesus helps us understand God and teaches us to help and love each other even through mistakes. Jesus reminds us of the bigger picture as we continue to do good and expand our faith. The teachings of Jesus are a

foundational guide that lead us on a path like a hiking trail. We believe Jesus died for us, so we will live for him.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is with us all the time, giving us comfort and strength. The Holy Spirit moves us like a current in the water that is always flowing through us. We believe the Holy Spirit is our Rock and our Sustainer, providing us strength and courage to get through hard

situations.

We believe the Bible teaches us about Jesus’ life and about God. The stories of Scripture can be used as a guide to live our lives, telling us how to do good and to be peaceful as we live out our faith.

In Gratitude, we say thanks be to God. Amen
