Advent 2025

Our Advent theme this year is Love Came Down.  In the season of Advent, we speak about Emmanuel, meaning God with us.  It is a reminder that love is not distant.  Love came down and was embodied in the person of Jesus as the Christ child.  As we wait, we open our hearts to welcome the One who brings hope, peace, joy and love into our world and into our lives.

  • Advent Devotional

Enjoy daily devotions through the season of Advent written by people within our church.  A daily devotion can center your day and it is always meaningful to read encouraging words written by those in our faith community.  You may pick up a book at church or read it online through our church website at sunprairieumc.org.

  • Advent Study- "Down to Earth"

This Advent study by United Methodist pastors Mike Slaughter and Rachel Billups will focus on the love, humility, lifestyle and obedience of Jesus that came down to earth at Christmas.  The study will explore what the Christmas miracle means to each of us.  Using stories and Scripture, the study will challenge us during the Advent season with down-to-earth love, humility, lifestyle and obedience.

Join us on Wednesdays from noon to 1 pm in the Chapel:  December 3, 10 and 17, or on Sundays from 10:15-11 am in the Conference Room:  November 30, December 7, 14 and 21.  Pastor Jenny will teach the Wednesday class and Pastor Brad and Amanda Hinthorn will teach the Sunday class.  The Friday Grace Cafe small group will also be offering this Advent study from 9:30-11 am.

    Time: 9 am

On December 21st during worship be prepared to join our children in a surprising journey to the stables of Bethlehem, where A Child Shall Lead us from the miracle of Christ unto the world to the miracle of Christ who lives on in the hearts and commitment of each and everyone of us. This “Christmas in a Bag” program will be full of surprises, as all who attend worship may have the chance to be invited in as part of the story. Arrive like any other Sunday, but be prepared because you may just be randomly handed a bag with a role and a costume. When the Children’s moment starts, get suited up and listen for your cue to come up to the stable scene as the story unfolds. With poetry and narration brought to life by our confirmation volunteers, this is sure to be a moment to remember.
