The 40 days before Easter is known as the season of Lent, a time of preparing for the celebration of Easter through the practice of prayer and fasting, meditation, study and worship. It is also a time to repent of one’s sins and to seek reconciliation.
Lent is a profound time when we are asked to look deep within ourselves and face our own sinfulness, yet still know that we are held within the saving love of God. This love holds us, not to judge our sin, but to heal our very souls and to lead us to new life.
The word ‘Lent’ comes from the Anglo-Saxon word ‘lecten’, which means ‘spring’ and the lengthening of days. The 40 days of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. Sundays are not counted in the 40 days, as the Sabbath Day each week is considered a ‘mini-Easter’ when we worship and give thanks for the resurrection of Jesus.
We invited you in these 40 days and nights of Lent to turn yourself toward God through the disciplines of prayer, fasting, meditation, study and worship; through giving to those in need, and through looking within your own heart.
Thanks be to God who through Jesus the Christ is our hope and our joy.

*Lent Study: This year, our focus is on the ‘O’ of our ministry plan of G.R.O.W, which represents Our story. Our Lenten theme is The Story Continues… For our Lenten study, we will share in a Bible study called The Story of Jesus: Experiencing the Life of Jesus as one Seamless Story. This study uses the book The Story, which is the Bible condensed into one continuing story of God and God’s people.
We will meet for five sessions and look at the topics: Jesus’ Ministry Begins, No Ordinary Man, Jesus, the Son of God, The Hour of Darkness and The Resurrection. The study will give us the opportunity to learn, discuss and apply Jesus’ life, work and teaching to our lives.
You may be part of the study on Wednesdays at noon or Sunday mornings at 9:45 am at the church. The Wednesday class will begin on March 9 and the Sunday class on March 6. You can also participate in the study on Friday morning Grace Cafe group or with our Saturday Morning Men’s Group via zoom. Please contact the church office to let us know what class you will be a part of and we will order you the book, The Story. Cost of the book for this study is $5.
*This year we would like to offer a “Lent in Basket” to each of our church households. Please sign up below. You can pick up your Lent in a Bag on Sunday, February 27th from 8:30-11:45am. If you have any questions please contact the church office. To sign up for Lent in a Basket click here.

Care for Others
We will take time to care for others through gifts and prayers.
*You can submit prayer requests to our church office or on our website at anytime during the week. With your permission, our church office staff will send out prayer requests via email to our prayer chain. If you would like to be added to our prayer chain please contact the church office.
*Our Monthly Food Drive for the Sun Prairie Food Pantry during Lent will be Saturday March 19th & Sunday March 20th and Saturday April 16th & Sunday April 17th. On those Saturdays we have drive-through donations in our parking lot from 10am – noon. On Sundays you may bring your donations when you come to worship and place them in the shopping cart in the narthex. At the drive-through Saturday Food Drives, we will also be collecting children’s books for Shelter from the Storm. Thank you for continuing to help those in need!
*Coordinating with our Lenten theme of “The Story Continues….”, this Lenten season we are asking for donations of children’s books to donate to Shelter from the Storm. They are looking for books geared towards children age 1-16. They are asking for Christian-themed books, children’s Bibles or children/teen devotional books, but of course any books are welcomed and appreciated! These books may be gently used or new. Books may be donated anytime during Lent starting with Ash Wednesday on March 3rd going through Easter. Look for the display in fellowship hall for your donations. We will also accept the donations at the Food Drive in the parking lot on Saturday March 19 and Saturday April 16. Thank you for providing the gift of storytelling to others this Lenten season!
