An Unlikely Advent
This four-week Advent study written by pastor Rachel Billups, will focus on the experiences of some of the overlooked characters in the Christmas story. We will look at the stories of Elizabeth and Zechariah, Herod, the Magi and the shepherds as we explore the Advent themes of Hope, Love, Peace and Joy.
Join us on Wednesdays from noon to 1 pm in the Chapel: November 29, December 6, 13 & 20, or on Sundays from 9:45-10:30 am in the Conference Room: November 26, December 3, 10 & 17. Pastor Jenny will teach the Wednesday class and Pastor Brad will teach the Sunday class. Please contact the church office (abby@sunprairieumc.org) to let us know which class you would like to attend and we will make sure to order you a book.
During the season of Advent we will be collecting diapers and wipes that will be given to Northside Elementary. Please bring your donations to church and leave them in our collection area in the Narthex.
Join the SPUMC children during the 10:45am service on December 17th to see what would happen if the animals told the story of the birth of Jesus.
Capture the Christmas spirit by attending our 4th annual Live Nativity with your family! Sun Prairie United Methodist Church, 702 North Street, is hosting a Drive Through Live Nativity on Saturday, December 9th from 5:30-7:00 pm. Grab your family, hop in the car, and sip a hot beverage as you view scenes that recount the events that lead up to Jesus’ miraculous birth in the manger.
You’ll see Caesar Augustus, Joseph & Mary, shepherds, and angels realistically portrayed by SPUMC volunteers as well as live animals bringing the experience to life as you slowly drive past six scenes inspired by scripture. Traditional Christian music and the warmth of fellowship will prepare your heart and mind for the week leading up to Christmas.
For those of you unable to join us in person, the Live Nativity will be viewable on the church website shortly after the event. www.sunprairieumc.org
For many, Christmas is a bittersweet time of the year. For some their hearts are breaking over the loss of a loved one, for some they are battling physical or mental health issues, for some they are facing difficult family situations. If you struggle to find joy in this season, we offer our Longest Night Service. Through music and scripture, prayer and communion, along with the lighting of candles, we hope to help you break the darkness finding the light that Jesus Christ offers. Our Longest Night Service will be held on Monday, December 18 at 7:00. You are invited to join in person or virtually online.
