The season of Advent will begin on Sunday, November 27th.  Join us for worship at 8:30 or 10:45 am in the sanctuary or livestream, which is available through our church website at sunprairieumc.org or our YouTube channel.  Our Advent theme is Picture This.  Each week in worship, we will picture the Hope, Peace, Joy and Love of the coming of Jesus the Christ child.

Many people in the SP area struggle to make ends meet and purchase Christmas gifts for their children.  Help a family by making a child’s Christmas wish come true by selecting a gift tag from our Spirit of Giving Tree, spending between $40-$50 a gift.   Bring the unwrapped gift with the tag attached back by Dec 4th. If you are not attending church in person yet, but would like a tag, please contact the church office. Thank you!

Friday, December 2nd at 7 pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church

Come hear wonderful Advent and Christmas music from area churches and choirs.  An offering will be taken to support the Sun Prairie Emergency Food Pantry.

The legend of St. Nicholas says that over 200 after the birth of Jesus, a boy named Nicholas was born in Patara, Turkey.  His parents had heard about Jesus Christ and raised Nicholas as a Christian.  Nicholas grew to be a wealthy man and decided to give his wealth to those in need.  He did this at night by dropping coins through open windows in the homes of the needy.  Later, the early Christian Church declared him a Saint.

In the spirit of gift giving to those who need a little extra help this Christmas, the SPUMC St. Nicholas Fund is used to assist members and friends of our church during the Christmas season and throughout the year at the discretion of Pastor Jenny and the staff.

You may send your gift to the church, put your gift in the offering plate on Sundays or give electronically through the church website at sunprairieumc.org.

Food and personal care items can be brought to the church parking lot on Saturday, December 10th between 9-11 am or bring items with you to church on Sunday, December 11th.

Our Advent Study will be The Angels of Christmas:  Hearing God’s Voice in Advent.  This four-week study by Susan Robb explores the four angelic visits surrounding the birth of Jesus.

The study will explore the visits of Zechariah, Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds and dive deep into the history of the angel Gabriel and other angels in the Old Testament.  Come discover how the messages of the angels held meaning for people of the past and hold meaning for us today.

Pastor Jenny will teach the Advent study on Wednesdays from noon to 1 pm in the Chapel, beginning November 30th.  Pastor Brad will teach the study on Sundays from 9:45-10:30 am in the Conference Room, beginning November 27th.  Our Friday morning Grace Cafe group and the Saturday morning Men’s Group will also be sharing in this Advent study.

Please contact our church office to sign-up for a class and order the Advent study book.  Call 608/837-5554 or email lmeixner@sunprairieumc.org.

During Advent this year we are collecting socks and underwear for SP Community Schools and the YWCA.  Please bring donations (children’s small – teens) during Advent and look for the display area in the narthex. Thank you for helping others in need during this season! You may bring items to church anytime during Advent.

Our Children’s Christmas program will be shown in worship on Sunday, December 11th during Children’s Time and available to watch online through our church website and YouTube channel any time after December 11th.  This is a wonderful opportunity to share our children’s Christmas program with relatives and friends wherever they live.

The third Sunday of Advent, December 18th will be our Christmas Choir Cantata.  Join us in worship at 8:30 or 10:45 in the sanctuary or on the livestream and listen to our Chancel Choir offer beautiful music of the season.

Journey with Mary and Joseph to the stable in Bethlehem and witness the miracle of the first Christmas on December 17th from 5:30-7 pm.  Scenes vividly brought to life by members of the Sun Prairie United Methodist Church.  Hot chocolate will be served.

For many of us, Christmas is a difficult time of year.  Perhaps this year has been made more difficult if a loved one has died, you are having challenging family relationships, struggling with addiction, physical or mental illness, stress, or feeling deeply the pain of what is happening in our world.  This service is a quiet, meditative worship service that will offer the opportunity to remember, share your hurting places with God and move toward healing so that your heart might be prepared for the birth of Christ.  This service will take place online on December 21st at 5 pm or any time after.  The service will include Scripture readings, lighting of candles, music and Holy Communion.

Join us on Christmas Eve, December 24th, for worship in the church sanctuary or on the livestream at 5 pm, 7 pm and 9 pm.  Our 5 pm worship will feature music from our Christmas Eve Band.  The Chancel Choir will offer music at our 7 pm worship and our bell choir will offer music at 9 pm.  Holy Communion will be shared at the 9 pm worship service.  The livestream may be accessed through our church website at sunprairieumc.org or through our YouTube Channel.
