I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will tell of all God’s wonderful deeds. Psalm 9:1
A couple of weeks ago on the morning after a heavy snowfall, the weather was gorgeous…not too cold; calm wind, a beautiful sunrise, and clean, white snow. Since it was early and most of the streets had not yet been plowed, I decided to go snowshoeing instead of my morning run. After strapping on my snowshoes, I headed for a park with a large open area near my house.
The early morning was truly a gift. As the sun got higher in the sky, the snow became like tiny shining lights that were too numerous to count. It was one of those mornings that gave me pause and the only response was to be thankful. It was a wonderful setting to offer morning prayers and allow the tiny shining lights in the snow to be a reminder that when we are intentional about thinking of all that we have to be thankful for, the gratitude is too numerous to count.
As we move this week into the season of Lent, our Lenten theme is “Change My Heart, O God: 40 Days of Gratitude.” May we find gratitude in each of the 40 days of Lent and may we allow each gratitude to turn our hearts a bit more toward God.
