Children and Family Ministries
Sun Prairie UMC has a Vibrant and Lively Community for Kids of All Ages!
- Children’s Ministry encompasses ages birth to 5th grade.
- Family Ministry focuses on those events and activities that are great for the whole family together.
Children’s ministry is diverse and active! Listed below are the many ways your child can be involved in the life of the SPUMC community:
COVID Update: Until further notice, church school lessons are emailed home to families once a week. We have a church school check in on our Facebook Group Sunday mornings at 9:45am. If you would like to connect, please email Director of Christian Education Amanda Hinthorn.
Church School runs September through May every Sunday, starting at 9:45 a.m.
Children must register for Church School so that teachers can be prepared for the right amount of students and to follow Safe Sanctuary guidelines.
Each summer, we offer a day-long mission experience for current 5th grade students. This mission opportunity is designed to serve as a first step into mission work. The day long experience includes some faith exploration along with a service component. It generally takes place in the Sun Prairie area.
Children’s Church is held on Sunday mornings during our 8:30 a.m. worship services September through May. In Children’s Church, kids aged 3 years to 5th grade meet in our new classroom addition following the children’s sermon. We read a story, do a craft, play games and learn about God’s love.
Please note: We do not offer children’s church the first Sunday of the month. This weekend is set aside for families to worship together and to participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion as a family.
Youth in 3rd to 7th grade are invited to be part of our Acolyte Ministry at Sun Prairie United Methodist Church. Youth are responsible for carrying the light of Christ into and out of our worship space. If you have questions, please contact our Acolyte Coordinator Jenny Elske.
VBS is offered every summer (usually in August) for children entering 4K through 5th grade that fall.
Summer Children’s Church
Summer Children’s Church is offered during both summer weekend worship services for children age 3 to 1st grade. We DO NOT have children’s church the first weekend of the month so that families can worship together and have communion.
5th Grade Summer Mission Experience
Students who are completing 5th grade will be invited to participate in a day long mission experience each summer. The experience is designed to lay a basic foundation for mission including theology, faith formation, service and fundraising.
Each advent season our children have the opportunity to share with our church family the story of the birth of Jesus in new and exciting ways.
Please watch for more information this fall about our plans for advent 2020.
Sometimes adults need to worship without their littlest ones. We understand.
Our nursery is open 10 minutes before each of our three worship services, with care offered for children from birth to age two. Families sign children in and receive a pager to take back to worship with them (we contact parents and family members if we need them to return). Our nursery staff is CPR, First Aid and Safe Sanctuaries trained. If you will be leaving your child(ren) in the nursery during worship we ask that you complete the Worship Nursery Registration. These are kept on file in our nursery area.
