Children and Family Ministries

Sun Prairie UMC has a Vibrant and Lively Community for Kids of All Ages!

  • Children’s Ministry encompasses ages birth to 5th grade.
  • Family Ministry focuses on those events and activities that are great for the whole family together.

Children's Ministry

Children’s ministry is diverse and active! Listed below are the many ways your child can be involved in the life of the SPUMC community:

Church School runs September through May every Sunday, starting at 9:45 a.m.

Children must register for Church School so that teachers can be prepared for the right amount of students and to follow Safe Sanctuary guidelines.

Each summer our 5th graders participate in a mission day that is designed to help our local community. Please watch for more information about mission day 2022 in early spring.

If you have any questions please contact Director of Christian Education Amanda Hinthorn at

Children’s Church is held on Sunday mornings during our 8:30 a.m. worship services September through May. In Children’s Church, kids aged 3 years to 5th grade meet in our new classroom addition following the children’s sermon. We read a story, do a craft, play games and learn about God’s love.

Please note: We do not offer children’s church the first Sunday of the month. This weekend is set aside for families to worship together and to participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion as a family.

We are looking for volunteers to help lead our children’s church ministry in fall 2021. If you can help please visit the link below and sign up.

Children’s Church Volunteers Fall 2021

Vacation Bible School takes place in late summer for incoming 4K through 5th graders. Information is usually released in the spring along with registration forms.

Summer Children’s Church

Summer Children’s Church is offered during both summer weekend worship services for children age 3 to 1st grade. We DO NOT have children’s church the first weekend of the month so that families can worship together and have communion.

5th Grade Summer Mission Experience

Students who are completing 5th grade will be invited to participate in a day long mission experience each summer. The experience is designed to lay a basic foundation for mission including theology, faith formation, service and fundraising.

The True Story of The 12 Days of Christmas
This year we will ask families to record parts of our Children’s Christmas Program at home. Church staff will edit these videos together to create our program. Families will be able to watch the program online any time after 12pm on December 5th on our YouTube Channel. In addition, we are hoping to host a watch party for all our families that feel safe joining us onsite at church on Sunday, December 5th at 2pm. Those who gather onsite will watch the program together. We will then have a number of fun Christmas activities for families to participate in.
If your child(ren) would like to have a part in the program please email Director of Christian Education Amanda Hinthorn by OCTOBER 15th.

Sometimes adults need to worship without their littlest ones. We understand.

Our nursery is open 10 minutes before each of our three worship services, with care offered for children from birth to age two. Families sign children in and receive a pager to take back to worship with them (we contact parents and family members if we need them to return). Our nursery staff is CPR, First Aid and Safe Sanctuaries trained. If you will be leaving your child(ren) in the nursery during worship we ask that you complete the Worship Nursery Registration. These are kept on file in our nursery area.
