Small Group Ministry
Each Advent Season we offer a number of study groups to help us grow spiritually. Please check back later in the year to learn more about these opportunities in 2021.
Garden Club is a fun and relaxing way to spend with family and friends as you help keep our UMC looking beautiful. We’ll help you pick a section to work on during the Summer and Fall. Once a week or every other week,
you’ll work on things like weeding, “dead-heading’ flowers, and clearing away dead leafage. In the Fall, all perennials and grasses need to be cut back. We have a ‘Mulch Day’ that our Garden Club and volunteers spread new mulch in the Spring. You will be the ‘artistic’ caretaker of your garden
area, so you’ll have the freedom to plant annuals or thin existing plants as you see fit. Please consider joining our Garden Club by contacting: Judy Krebs at email@example.com
For those new to Sun Prairie UMC and for those who might now be interested in joining, Grace Café is offered as an opportunity for women to gather for book study, companionship, and support. There are two groups, one meeting on Thursday evenings and another meeting on Friday mornings. Generally, participants choose the group that most aligns with their schedule, but you will find like-hearted, wise, and kind women in both groups.
Since the onset of COVID-19 the Friday gathering has been meeting virtually by ZOOM and now the Thursday Night Grace Café is back, also meeting virtually by ZOOM.
Thursday Night Group
Our Thursday night women’s book study will be restarting this fall. Please watch for more information.
Friday Morning Group
Our Friday morning women’s book study will begin meeting again this fall. Please watch for more information soon.
All women are welcome to join us! Please contact Juanona Brewster at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to register.
Grief can exhaust us, so it is good to have people and places to have for support and resources. Our Grief Education and Support Group meets on the first and third Monday of each month from 6:30-8:00 pm at church for support and education on the grief journey. Kris Simon leads this group. She is a Registered Nurse with a Master’s Degree in Counseling. She is also a trained Stephen Minister. Kris has 14 years of experience working in hospice, initially as a hospice nurse and then as a grief counselor. This group is a ‘drop-in’ group…come whenever you feel the need for support for whatever kind of grief you may be experiencing.
Knit Crochet Pray is a group who meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month. Pre-COVID, we would meet at the Wesley House next to the church, but have transitioned over to Zoom since the start of the pandemic. We craft prayer shawls, pocket prayer shawls, baby blankets for baptisms, and hats. The hats we donate to the Sun Prairie Schools every Fall.
We have many years of experience in our group and are always willing to share if you are interested in learning how to knit and/or crochet. Or maybe you would like to brush up on your skills? The second Monday is designed for just such sharing of our knowledge. On the fourth Monday we include devotional readings and prayers as we continue to work on our various projects. New members are always welcome and thanks to many generous donations over the years, we have plenty of supplies such as yarn, needles, hooks, and patterns to get you started!
If you would like more information, please contact Kathy Wessel at email@example.com.

We will follow the Conference-wide Lenten study written by our Bishop Hee-Soo Jung. The study is titled, Together in Christ: A Lenten Study on Beloved Community. The Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church has committed to a priority of Dismantling Racism, Bishop Jung’s study is a resource on radical inclusion and racial justice. This will be an important study as we explore together issues that are challenging and often uncomfortable. Each weekly session offers a Scripture passage, a reflection, a set of questions for group conversation, and suggested assignments for the days in between sessions. Please join us for this important Lenten study. There will be no cost for materials.
The Men’s Group is meeting virtually on Zoom due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Pre-Covid 19 we met in-person on Saturday mornings at the church. We will most likely return to meeting in-person when we can safely do so. We start at 8AM, and end at 9 AM. The group is self-sufficient in that there is no official facilitator or leader. There are currently nine active participants in the group.
Typically, we start with a check-in on how our week has gone (everything shared is confidential). We try to keep the check-in to approximately 2 minutes per individual. Next, we discuss the current topic/book that we are using for our study. At times we use the Upper Room devotional as a fill in between topics/books. As an example we recently did a study on an Adam Hamilton book during the season of Advent. We share what was meaningful to each of us during our discussion. We have read several faith-based books over the years including the bible through a structured study. Approximately 50 minutes into the hour we take prayer requests/concerns/joys from our participants. We end with a closing prayer.
We also have some fun activities outside of the structured study. Pre-Covid 19 we did an annual “Brewers” game including tailgating. We are sure to continue “fun activities” when we can safely do so.
Please contact the church office for more information and to get the zoom link. We’d love to have you join us!
Men in Mission meets approximately once a month for dinner and approximately every other month for a mission project. Come when you are able!

The SPUMC M&Ms Book Study Group has been in existence for almost 20 years. M&M stands for Martha and Mary, women of the bible that host Jesus. We meet (live or virtually) one or two Thursdays of the month either at SPUMC (or virtually) from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. We choose a book to study and then take turns leading the discussion. Our meetings also include time to share, laugh, and pray together. Currently, we are a group of women, but men have been in the group in the past. We also meet socially throughout the year. We do like to pick a few projects a year to devote time/money towards.
Our next session begins in September and the book that has been chosen is
“Freely and Lightly, God’s Gracious Invitation to a Life of Quiet Confidence” by Emily Lex. This art-filled book leads us towards the peace, contentment and true fulfillment God offers us. It is the personal journey of a woman looking for meaning and purpose.
We are glad to welcome new members at any time! Please contact the church office for more information. We do place an order for the books and they are delivered to SPUMC for pick up or you can download yourself onto an electronic reader.
For more information on our group, please contact Laura in the Church office.
Sunday mornings Sept-May at 9:45 am

We will also spend time sharing our own experiences. We will meet in the Library. No registration required—join us when you can!
