Small Group Ministry
Each Advent Season we offer a number of study groups to help us grow spiritually. Please check back later in the year to learn more about these opportunities in 2022.
Join us for our four #BeUMC Forums beginning September 18 and concluding October 9. Grab a cup of coffee and a donut and join us in the church Chapel from 9:45-10:30 am.
As United Methodists, we have wonderful stories to share as we worship together, grow in our faith, care for others and share God’s love in our communities and the world. Even in the midst of many challenges, there is much to appreciate about being United Methodist. The United Methodist Church is founded on John Wesley’s theology of grace and is anchored in Scripture. Our understandings of life and faith are grounded in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and the ongoing movement of the Holy Spirit.
Each week in our #BeUMC Forum we will learn more about The United Methodist Church – Our history and structure, and where we are currently as a denomination. There will also be time for your questions. Mark your calendars for September 18 & 25 and October 2 & 9. Come to any or all of them. Pastor Jenny and other United Methodist clergy will facilitate our #BeUMC Forums.
Garden Club is a fun and relaxing way to spend with family and friends as you help keep our UMC looking beautiful. We’ll help you pick a section to work on during the Summer and Fall. Once a week or every other week,
you’ll work on things like weeding, “dead-heading’ flowers, and clearing away dead leafage. In the Fall, all perennials and grasses need to be cut back. We have a ‘Mulch Day’ that our Garden Club and volunteers spread new mulch in the Spring. You will be the ‘artistic’ caretaker of your garden
area, so you’ll have the freedom to plant annuals or thin existing plants as you see fit. Please consider joining our Garden Club by contacting: Judy Krebs at firstname.lastname@example.org and Pinny Finn at email@example.com
Grace Cafe is a book group for women that meets on Friday mornings from 9:30-11:30am. Grace Cafe is a time for you to fellowship with other women, as well as grow in your faith through scripture, discussion, friendships and of course, food and coffee! Come and be pampered while you get together with both long-time and new friends to discuss a good book. There is typically one book in the fall and one in the winter.
More information will be sent out at a later date via the SPUMC Thursday email and we will send an email to this group at the same time. We hope to be able to meet in person in the Chapel this fall. If you have any questions, please contact Juanona Brewster (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month, the Grief Group meets from 6:30-8pm in the church library. This is a drop in, Education and Support group. You may come as often as you like. Kris Simon, a Registered Nurse with a Master’s Degree in Counseling, facilitates the group. She is also trained as a Stephen Minister. Kris has 14 years of experience working in hospice, initially as a hospice nurse and then as a grief counselor. Throughout her work in hospice, Kris has provided individual grief counseling in addition to facilitating a variety of grief support groups. Kris is passionate about grief support groups after years of observing directly the benefits to those attending. For more information contact the church office.
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month. We meet in person at the Wesley house and have others join us via zoom at the same time. We craft prayer shawls, pocket prayer shawls, baby blankets for baptisms, and hats. The hats we donate to the Sun Prairie Schools every Fall. We have also donated blankets to the UW-NICU and every year we enjoy crafting prayer shawls for confirmands.
We have many years of experience in our group and are always willing to share if you are interested in learning how to knit and/or crochet. Or maybe you would like to brush up on your skills? The second Monday is designed for just such sharing of our knowledge. On the fourth Monday we include devotional readings and prayers as we continue to work on our various projects. New members are always welcome and thanks to many generous donations over the years, we have plenty of supplies such as yarn, needles, hooks, and patterns to get you started!
If you would like more information, please contact Kathy Wessel at email@example.com.
Each year our church engages in a Lent study during the season of Lent. Please watch in early 2023 for more information about our Lent study and focus.
The Men’s Group meets on Saturday mornings in the conference room at church. We start at 8am and end at 9am. The group is self-sufficient in that there is no official facilitator or leader. There are currently eight active participants.
Typically, we start with a check-in on how our week has gone (everything shared is confidential). We try to keep the check-in to approximately 2 minutes per individual. Next, we discuss the current topic/book that we are using for the study. At times we use The Upper Room devotional as a fill in between topics/books. As an example, we recently did a study on The Gospel of John by Adam Hamilton. We share what was meaningful to each of us during our discussion. We have read several faith-based books over the years including the Bible through structured study. Approximately 50 minutes into the hour we take prayer request/concerns/joys from our participants. We end in closing prayer.
We also have some fun outside of the structured study. This year we went to a “Brewers” game including tailgating. We are sure to continue “fun activities” when we can safely do so.
Please contact the church office for more information. We’d love to have you join us!
Men in Mission meets approximately once a month for dinner and approximately every other month for a mission project. Come when you are able!

The SPUMC women’s M&Ms Book Study Group has been in existence for almost 20 years. M&M stands for Martha and Mary, women of the bible that host Jesus. We meet (live or virtually) one Thursday of the month either at SPUMC (or virtually) from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. We choose either a book or video series to study and then take turns leading the discussion. This year we are doing a video series, Our meetings also include time to share, laugh, and pray together. We do like to pick a few projects a year to devote time/money towards.
