Outreach is focused on reaching out into our community and world. We support numerous projects within Sun Prairie and the world. Below is a list of organizations that we support.
We would love to hear your ideas and your interests for our Outreach team. We invite you to become involved with us. To contact the outreach team please connect with our church office.
Sunshine Supper-
Sunshine Supper is a FREE community meal offered to anyone on Monday evenings. Sun Prairie United Methodist Church provides a meal quarterly – once in January, April, July and October. We ask for donations of certain foods, beverages and desserts and people to help serve the meal. We also ask for monetary donations to purchase food to serve. Watch the website, social media and announcements during worship to donate food items or money to purchase food items or to sign up to help. Families can volunteer together – kids 11 -16 can volunteer with an adult.
Ingathering Donations –
We are collecting personal dignity kits for our participants going to Annual Conference to take for distribution to people affected by floods, tornadoes, and other natural disasters. More information about what to collect can be found by clicking the link below. A list of items is also available on the shelving in the narthex. Please return your items to church no later than June 4, so they can be loaded on June 5. Items may be put in the grocery cart under the coat rack in the narthex. Thank you! More Information about these kits can be found here.
Sun Prairie Food Pantry–
Throughout the year, our church conducts regular food drives for both the Sun Prairie Emergency Food Pantry and the Northside Elementary School. Both groups provide needed food supplies for the Sun Prairie community, so children and families have adequate food for meals.
Loose Coins –
All of the coins put into the offering plate that are undesignated, are given to a specific mission project, which is designated quarterly. April through June 2023 Loose Coins will support Sunshine Supper Meals.
Donations to Help Our Community–
The SPUMC activity encourages our members to help support local, national and international organizations that provide needed services for a variety of causes. Some of the donations in the past have been for Mexican immigrants, Afghan refugees, Colonial Club Senior Center for programs, Habitat for Humanity, and many other groups serving people in a variety of ways.
Stuff the Bus –
Stuff the Bus is a volunteer group that distributes backpacks filled with school supplies to kids in the Sun Prairie School District who’s families request help. This year, we will be delivering 1500 backpacks to Sun Prairie youth and children. Sunshine Place can get the supplies at a reduced rate, so this year again, they are asking for donations to cover the costs of the supplies. It costs $25 for a backpack filled with the appropriate school supplies, but you can donate any amount you would like. To help, you can donate using the envelopes and put your donation in the Stuff the Bus Box on the turquoise “Hope” table in the narthex anytime before August 7th. Or you may mail your check to the church, made out to SPUMC with “Stuff the Bus” in the memo line. Or you can use this link. Thank you for helping Sun Prairie kids in need!
Faith in Action Day –
Faith in Action Day is put on by SPUMC’s Outreach Team. On a Saturday morning we meet for a light continental breakfast and then choose a mission that we would like to work at. There are usually 2-4 opportunities and something for everyone to get involved and help our community! These days are typically held in the spring or fall, so watch the website, social media and announcements during worship to find out when our next Faith in Action Day is and how you can sign up to help!
Spirit of Giving –
Many people in the SP area struggle to make ends meet and purchase Christmas gifts for their children. Every year, SPUMC has a Spirit of Giving Tree with tags hanging on it to purchase a child a gift. Watch for more information in November.
Christmas Eve Outreach Bags-
Every year on Christmas Eve we have bags of snacks and candy for anyone to pick up after worship and take to those who may be working on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day to let them know we’re thinking of them. After Christmas Eve worship, you may pick up a bag, or 2 or 3 and deliver yourself with a warm Christmas greeting!
Northside Elementary School Community Partner-
Our church serves as a community partner with our neighboring school Northside Elementary. Throughout the year we partner through providing donations of items need or volunteering to help with school projects.
