Outreach

Outreach is focused on reaching out into our community and world. We support numerous projects within Sun Prairie and the world. Below is a list of organizations that we support.

We would love to hear your ideas and your interests for our Outreach team. We invite you to become involved with us. To contact the outreach team please connect with our church office.

Sunshine Supper-

Sunshine Supper is a FREE community meal offered to anyone on Monday evenings.  Sun Prairie United Methodist Church provides a meal quarterly – once in January, April, July and October. We ask for donations of certain foods, beverages and desserts and people to help serve the meal. We also ask for monetary donations to purchase food to serve. Watch the website, social media and announcements during worship to donate food items or money to purchase food items or to sign up to help. Families can volunteer together – kids 11 -16 can volunteer with an adult.

Colonial Club-

In the late 1960’s, community members along with members of Sun Prairie United Methodist Church began discussions to create a Senior Center that would serve as a gathering place for older adults. Today the Colonial Club serves older adults in Sun Prairie, Bristol, Burke, Cottage Grove, Deerfield, Marshall and Medina. Between 2010 and 2020, the Colonial Club has provided:

*  over 27,000 hours of Case Management support
* Roughly 163,284 hours of care for Adult Day Center participants
* Nearly 223,000 meals
*  Over 47,000 hours of in-home care/support
* Over 350,00 miles of transportation services

We are inviting you to give to this wonderful organization with a rich history in Sun Prairie that serves our older adults.  You can pay through our website, send a check to church, drop it off in the mail slot on the back door,  or put in the offering plate in an envelope marked “Colonial Club donation.   Thank you for helping support Sun Prairie’s older adult population!

Ingathering Donations –

Once a year, at the time of our United Methodist Annual Conference, we collect items to be taken to the Midwest Distribution Center to be taken around the country to areas of disaster relief. The items we collect each year is different, so watch the website, social media and announcements in May and early June to find out what we are collecting and how to donate.

Loose Coins –

All of the coins put into the offering plate that are undesignated, are given to a specific mission project, which is designated quarterly. Look at the Outreach page of the church website to see where those coins are designated.

Cookie Walk –

Every year in December SPUMC holds a Cookie Walk. Beautiful cookies are donated by church members and sold by the pound. All proceeds go to a mission chosen by the Outreach Team. Watch the website, social media and the announcements during worship to see when the next cookie walk is and plan to donate cookies as well as shop!

Stuff the Bus

Stuff the Bus is a volunteer group that distributes backpacks filled with school supplies to kids in the Sun Prairie School District whose families request help. In 2021 we delivered 1500 backpacks to Sun Prairie youth and children. Watch for information in July 2022 on how you can help!

Faith in Action Day –

Faith in Action Day is put on by SPUMC’s Outreach Team.  On a Saturday morning we meet for a light continental breakfast and then choose a mission that we would like to work at. There are usually 2-4 opportunities and something for everyone to get involved and help our community!  These days are typically held in the spring or fall, so watch the website, social media and announcements during worship to find out when our next Faith in Action Day is and how you can sign up to help!

Spirit of Giving

The Sun Prairie Spirit of Giving Program matches families in need of gifts and food for their children during the December holiday season with community members who want to help.  This program provides assistance to families who live in or attend the Sun Prairie Area School District. Watch our Website, social media and the announcements during worship in November to find out how you can help by purchasing a gift for a child or children in need.

Christmas Eve Outreach Bags-

Every year on Christmas Eve we have bags of snacks and candy for anyone to pick up after worship and take to those who may be working on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day to let them know we’re thinking of them.  After Christmas Eve worship, you may pick up a bag, or 2 or 3 and deliver yourself with a warm Christmas greeting!

Northside Elementary School Community Partner-

Our church serves as a community partner with our neighboring school Northside Elementary. Throughout the year we partner through providing donations of items need or volunteering to help with school projects. Helping our Friends in Texas-

Cindy Johnson is a United Methodist Women’s  Deaconess who works with immigrants in Brownsville, TX through La Posada. La Posada is the only shelter in the area that provides holistic services for migrants and has been around for about 30 years. The Rio Texas United Methodist Church, District and Global Ministries has been providing support. They are in need of additional support, as they are trying to serve more and more people coming through.

There is an Amazon wish list where you can order t-shirts, socks, underwear, diapers & wipes or toilet paper to be shipped directly to Cindy Johnson.  She then takes them to La Posada or the Bus Station where migrants prepare for their trips to sponsors across the country.

If you are interested in helping, click on this Amazon wish list link where you can have items sent directly to Cindy to distribute.  https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1BLEA0RQJYZMZ/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_1?_encoding=UTF8&type=wishlist
