“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart.”
What do you know more deeply than anything else?
The prophet Jeremiah declares that God’s plan is for our welfare and not for harm; for a future with hope. In the midst of so much that seems harmful and often hopeless in our lives and in the world, when I sit with these words from Jeremiah, I am reminded again of what I know more deeply than anything else…that God’s plan is for goodness for all people. Even when we can’t see the goodness, the prophet reminds us to trust in God’s plan.
When we take the time to pray and study the Scriptures, we will know God and God’s heart more deeply. Then, when we take an inward look at ourselves and our lives, we will identify how we fill our time, how we spend our money, how we relate to others; and we will know what matters most.
When we get into the heart of it all, what we know most deeply we will express with our lives. I invite you to pray in this day and this week that we will know God and God’s way of love and justice and goodness more deeply.
