Scattered

This is the time of year when there is more to do than there is time to get it done, especially if you are in ministry.

I find that I have the “to-do” list out. It is getting checked. I have several documents going on my computer screen at the same time. I feel rushed. I feel pressured. I need to produce. Writers block isn’t helpful at this moment.

(Take a breath)

I am not alone. I know this. Many others feel rushed and harried as well.

(Take another breath)

God is here. God loves me. God loves you. Sometimes I can get so caught up in producing, and feeling pushed, that I forget the basics. God is here. God loves me. God loves you.

In my devotions this morning, I read from 1 Corinthians chapter six. Paul is actually addressing some concerns of inappropriate sexual relations in the Corinthian Church. What Paul says is that what we do with our bodies, what we do with our lives, reflects upon God and what we believe about God. He goes on to urge that church and all who seek to be faithful to God, to take care of ourselves so others can see God in and through us.

This scripture is an invitation for me to remember the basics. God is here. God loves me. God loves you.

When I allow myself to become scattered, rushing from one task to the next, with little room to pause or to take a breath, I certainly don’t do myself any favors.

So, for the moment I am going to take a breath. I am going to pause. I am going to ask God to help me to remember.

“Dear God, thank you for being here. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for loving those who are reading this. May we all find time, in the midst of the living we do, to pause and remember the basics. Teach us to take care of ourselves better, so you can be seen in us and through us, in a world that is filled with hurt.”

In the hope Jesus offers us,

Rev. Scott
