  What is Java Notes?

Java Notes CoffeeHouse

Java Notes is a new concert series of professional folk musicians from around the country. Concerts will be performed in a coffeehouse atmosphere. Funds raised from each concert are used to help people in need through local nonprofit agencies.

Performances will be held at 8:00 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month, January through May, and then September through November at the Sun Prairie United Methodist Church. For more information about Java Notes and other upcoming concerts view the Java Notes website at www.javanotes.org.

Java Notes has selected and contacted four non-profit organizations to serve as partner organizations for the first season:

  • Luke House of Madison (community meal ministry)
  • Habitat for Humanity (housing)
  • The Boys and Girls Club of Dane Co (children & youth)
  • The Wisconsin AIDS Network (health)

Proceeds will come from admissions and sales of desserts and beverages.

This program will be run entirely by volunteers. Outreach is seeking congregation-wide support for volunteer teams to take charge of the following areas:

  • Liaison to partner organizations.
  • Liaison to performers.
  • Refreshments – solicit dessert donations, arrange for beverages, and serve on coffeehouse nights.
  • Infrastructure and set-up – set-up and clean up on coffeehouse nights.
  • Publicity – publicize coffeehouse nights.

We are excited to embark on this new type of mission project. If you are interested in working in any of these areas call 837-5554.

  Java Notes Needs Your Help!

Participation! Please come and hear some fabulous musical performers. All the performers are professional recording artists who travel around the United States sharing their gifts of music. They are excited about being a part of mission work. Your support will help the following agencies (for the 2008 concert series): the Boys & Girls Club, the Wisconsin AIDS Network, Habitat for Humanity and Madison’s Luke House meal program.

Desserts! Please bring a donation of cookies, bars, and/or cupcakes on the Friday BEFORE the concert and drop off in the church kitchen.

Volunteers! There are places for volunteers in these areas: room set up (stage & tables), kitchen set up (coffee & desserts) and clean up. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Rev. Susan.

Host sites! We are looking for host families for our Java Notes musical performers on the second Saturday of the month (January through May and then September through November). It’s very common for folk performers to stay with host families when they are visiting a concert site. If you would like to host a performer, please contact Rev. Susan. If you are unable to host, would you please consider donating for a hotel room? See Rev. Susan with any questions.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!
