  Getting Married

Good marriages don't happen by accident.  They happen because a couple has decided to be intentional in their relationship.  It is through learning to communicate effectively, that a couple learns to honor the love they have for each other and the life they have received from God.

Our process for helping couples get married through our church, has at its core several complimentary desires.  It is our desire to help each couple getting married through our church connect with God and grow in faith.  It is our desire to help each couple getting married through our church get to know each other better.  It is our desire to help each couple getting married through our church to deepen their relationship with each other and learn effective skills for communicating together.  It is our desire to help each couple getting married through our church to plan a wedding ceremony that honors the love you have for God and for each other. Each couple getting married through our church agrees to a series of meetings with the pastor who will be performing the wedding to accomplish the above tasks.

The process of getting married at Sun Prairie United Methodist Church begins when the couple fills out a Wedding Request Form.  After this is filled out and returned to Sun Prairie UMC (via mail, e-mail, fax or drop off), one of the pastor's of the church will be in touch with the couple to let them know what has been decided.

 Questions and Answers
Minimize
* Once I have applied to get married at the church, how long before I hear back?
Generally, you will hear back within one week of sending in your application.

* Do I have to be a member before I can get married at SPUMC?
No, membership is not required to get married in our church.  However, we do desire to help everyone who gets married in our church to connect with God and grow in their faith through this process.

* When is my wedding officially on the church calendar?
After the Wedding Request Form is filled out and you have received a letter from one of the pastors acknowledging the official time and place of the wedding AND the couple submits their wedding deposit, then the wedding is placed on the church calendar.

* Are there any times of the year I can't get married at the church?
There are a few dates where we don't accept wedding requests, because of the schedule at the church.  Generally, we don't accept wedding requests between Christmas and New Years Weekends, Palm Sunday weekend through Easter Weekend, Memorial Day, July 4th Weekend, Labor Day and Thanksgiving Weekends as well as during the week of Annual Conference (Generally the third week in June).

* How much will a wedding cost?
There are several factors that determine the final cost of your wedding here.  The final cost will be determined after the Wedding Request Form has been completed and turned in.
